Technological Capabilities in Industrial Clusters

A Case Study of Textile Cluster in Northern India

Mohini Gulrajani

Mohini Gulrajani is Reader in Economics, Janki Devi Memorial Collage, University of Delhi, 110012, E-mail: mohini55{at}hotmail.com.

Meso-level studies dealing with specific regions and industrial clusters (ICs) have rarely incorporated the concept of technological capabilities (TCs) at the level of ICs in understanding the links between technological capabilities and the long-term dynamism of a cluster. It is important for researchers on ICs to recognise the importance of technological capabilities of the cluster in the process of innovation and technological change. This is particularly so because a large number of policy makers, all over the world are promoting cluster-based policies. This study attempts to draw on literature from cluster-based and innovation studies to articulate a relevant theoretical framework in an effort to explore the role of TCs in an industrial textile cluster in northern India.
